Spirit Airlines has flights from Plattsburgh to San Jose, Costa Rica in January/February for $330 roundtrip after tax. January 29 to February 05 for example.

By comparison, the cheapest from Montreal at that time are around $800 after tax at the moment.
It's about a 90 minute drive to Plattsburgh + a border crossing. Is it worth the drive? Have you ever done it? Did you encounter any problems? How much would you have to save to make it worth your while ? Would you do it to save $200/person or would it take $300/person or more ?
