Montreal to Paris - $483 roundtrip after tax

UPDATE 06/14 - June 19 to 26 is down to $433 roundtrip after tax.

There was an article in the Financial Post the other day about how Air Transat is expecting an earnings decline this year due to unexpected competition from Sunwing on flights to Europe.

Sunwing just dropped some bombshell prices that make it easy to see why that would be the case.

Try June 19-26 from Montreal to Paris, France on www.sunwing.ca and this is what you'll find:

(For some reason the price seems to show up higher first, but then drops after you select the flight)

    Hello Chris!

    Wonderful website, by the way.
I am currently planning a trip with a couple of friends to Paris in mid July (after the 8th) and I would like to know when is the best time to book the flight. I've noticed that most good deals come a week before the departure date, so I am unsure whether I should book in advance (which should be around 800$) or wait it out til the last minute deals come out (if any). However, if there is no good deal last minute, I might risk having to pay very expensive ticket... If you can give me a heads up as to when is the best timing, I would reaallly appreciate it!

    Thanks a bunch :)

    Shelly

    Thanks Shelly,

You've identified exactly the risk in waiting/hoping for a last minute flight, trading away the security of having something booked.

Unfortunately there's no crystal ball when it comes to flight price drops, but I have noticed a fair number of flights to Europe dropping like a rock this year, thanks to the increased competition from Sunwing, forcing Air Transat to make some cuts.

Overall, when Air Transat makes their cuts, it seems to be around 2 weeks before departure. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but that's about the average. Sunwing seems to often make deep cuts even closer to departure, sometimes with less than a week to go.

At least the taxes were relatively cheap on that flight Sebastien!
