Arajet recently announced they are going to start flying from Montreal with a non-stop flight to Santo Domingo (SDQ), Dominican Republic four times a week beginning in late October.
This is Arajet's second route from Canada, after launching from Toronto earlier in the month.
Arajet is based out of the Dominican Republic with connecting flights to Argentina, Aruba, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curacao, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, and Saint Maarten.
They have plans to expand their network to about 11 more countries.
One thing that's interesting about Arajet is that they charge quite a bit less for checked bags ($65 CAD roundtrip) than for carry-on ($105 CAD roundtrip).
Arajet's prices to the Dominican Republic are, thus far, nothing special. Their prices to the rest of the Caribbean are decent but not spectacular. (Update: Arajet is now offering some cheap flights to Santo Domingo).
But similar to when they launched out of Toronto, their prices to Brazil are pretty amazing ($438 CAD roundtrip with a checked bag). Note that as of this October Canadians require a tourist visa to visit Brazil.
There's also a few decent prices to Colombia, although I suspect we'll see better if Toronto is any gauge. (Update: Better prices have occasionally become available for Colombia although they don't last long)
If their launch from Montreal is similar to Toronto, the great prices below may disappear quickly, but they'll probably load more cheap fares soon after that (Update: That has occurred).
Arajet seems to adjust their fares constantly. I will keep this blog post updated with the latest Arajet fares that are interesting.
UPDATE: Arajet currently has cheap flights to Brazil in the spring and summer of 2024. And in January, February, March 2025 (as in, nearly a year from now)
